Questions About The Dream and Research to Answer Them
Ideas on pursuing our individual dreams, not the dreams of others. Learning to hear our inner voice to guide us toward them while filtering out the noise of modern society’s dream pushers.
Hi,
I’m starting to kick around the idea of writing a book about The Dream.
The idea got me thinking about when The Dream first took hold.
When did it lock us down?
When did we start following it en masse?
When did we choose to exchange our happiness in the pursuit of it?
Why did we make this choice?
Why do we continue making it, generation after generation?
How has The Dream’s definition shifted over time? What’s stayed the same?
I have more questions than answers about this right now. I’m feeling excited to do some research about it.
This American Dream wikipedia entry seems like as good a place as any to start.
How about you? What questions would you like to see answered about The Dream?
Please let me know by replying directly to this newsletter.
Catch you next week,
Chris
P.S. - If the research sounds interesting and you’d like to help, please let me know that too 😊🙏
Semi-Random Thoughts
Last Friday was the second in a row I took off for a summer vacation beach day. The experiment’s feeling pretty good so far. I hope doing this creates fond and lasting memories for our family, especially our 4 year old son.
We returned to Rockaway Beach, then wrapped with some grocery shopping and dinner in Brighton Beach/Sheepshead Bay, a largely Ukrainian community in Brooklyn.
My partner was born in Ukraine. Visiting these neighborhoods is a nice way for her and our son to connect with their roots.
I’m still experiencing internal pressure and some guilt for doing this. For example, am I being irresponsible for taking the day off when I have “so much” to do?
Or, is taking a step back, rather than pushing harder, the more beneficial approach. I’ve learned the benefits of doing the latter, yet have been having a hard time giving myself permission to ease into that space.

I liked this picture so much, I’m experimenting with printing it as a high quality print. I’m feeling excited to see how the creative experiment turns out!
